Matthias Dolderer takes World Championship in the second last race of the Red Bull Air Race Season!

Flight Motorsport is characterized by the combination of the pilots’ passion and sophisticated technology of the aircraft. Passion and the pursuit of perfected technology are also our motivation to strive for the best results in all our projects.

And the success is the proof of the concept: no matter whether the lawn mower is the quietest, the wind turbine is the most efficient, or – in this case – the aircraft is the fastest.

We are pleased that Dolderer could take the world championship in the Red Bull Air Race 2016 already in the penultimate race of  season in Indianapolis! His Zivko Edge 540 is equipped with Riblet technology by bionic surface technologies, which improves the aerodynamic characteristics of the aircraft and reduces fuel consumption.
The bionic magazine reported in detail on the improvements in the Red Bull Air Race. In 2015 bionic surface technologies has been awarded for these consulting activities with the nomination for the State Prize for Consulting.

Fractions of a second determine between winner and looser in sports, particularly in the world’s fastest motorsport series, the Red Bull Air Race. Matthias Dolderer won with a 340 Milliseconds lead in the Final 4 races of the red Bull Air Race in Spielberg. To make a bionic comparison: thats just one blink of a human eye (300 to 400 milliseconds, Robert A.Moses (publisher): Adler’s Physiology of the eye clinical application. Mosby, 1981, chapter 1, page 1–15.)

It was a great moment to see Matthias’ Aircraft, equipped with our riblets, being victorious in Spielberg’s thrilling Red Bull Air Race. Once again we all saw that in top-class sport any advance can be the decisive factor in the final results.
